ThescenebetweenJoshandJane(awonderful,youngEdieFalco...Youneedawomannotagirl)ishilarious...real.ButHartleycan'tleaveitassuchandhistrick,havingtheactorsrepeatthedialogueover-and-overbecomesfrustratinglyartyandannoying...untilagainitbecomeshilarious.Whataterrificsenseofbizarrerealitythislendsthefilm(likekidsinaperpetualamnotaretooargument). Hartley'sweavesallofasmallneighborhood'sidiosyncrasiesintoatapestryofseemingstereotypesbutwhichdelvesfarbeneaththesurface,thecatalystbeingthateveryonebelievestheyknowwhattheunbelievabletruthofthetitleis,yetnotwopeoplecanagree(includingourhero)onwhatexactlythattruthis.Awonderfullittlemoviewithsomebigideas.
